Mission Playground Unique, Organic T-Shirts: Wear Your Values on Your Sleeve

Learn_SST_storm_medium.jpg Mission Playground is an eco-friendly clothing company featuring unique organic t-shirts. My favorite is the Learn t-shirt. From production to distribution, Mission Playground is conscious of the environment and encourages people of all ages to follow suit.
Mission Playground's Top 5 Reasons to Wear Organic Clothing:

1) Organic clothing will help you reduce your environmental impact - the state of the environment is one of the world's biggest concerns, by wearing organic clothing you are doing what you can to ensure our children's children can enjoy Mother Nature as much as we do.

2) Organic clothing is best for your health- Our clothing is in constant contact with the largest organ in our bodies, our skin, and organic cotton clothes are produced in ways that do not destroy the environment and do not use pesticides, fertilizers or GMO seeds. In California, five of the top nine pesticides used on cotton are cancer-causing chemicals (cyanazine, dicofol, naled, propargite and trifluralin).*

3) Organic clothing is better for children - children are more vulnerable to toxins because their immune systems are immature. Because organic methods of agriculture do not use these harmful chemicals, their resulting fibers are much easier on a baby's sensitive skin.

4) 25% of the world's insecticides are used to grow conventional cotton** Enough said.

5) Organic clothing is cool - Well, Mission Playground's organic clothing is cool. With inspirational messages and designs such as 'The Earth is our Playground, Our Mission is to Preserve it', each article of clothing gives you the edge you need to be an agent of change.

Toasty Boys Organic Thermal Cotton Boxers for Men

toasty boys.jpg Toasty Boys are organic cotton boxers for men. These boxers keep the "boys" a perfect temperature, according to designer Christopher Anthony.
A mid-thigh THERMAL Boxer Brief that will keep your prized possessions nice and Toasty this Fall/Winter. Fabric is made from 100% Organic Cotton and features the softest, most comfortable Organic Cotton Waistband there is. The waffle weave fabric is knit, slightly, looser then 'old school Thermal' so it stretches and releases just enough heat all the while keeping your "Boys" Toasty INSTEAD of Hot!
Men deserve organic cotton too! Christopher has plans for a bamboo boxer line this spring, as well.

Made in the USA: Lotus Blossom Style Bamboo Women's Tees

CharuLotusDOUBLE.jpg Made in Los Angeles, California, Lotus Blossom Style's organic cotton and bamboo women's tees are beautiful! I love the Live Your Truth long sleeved tee, with its inside out stitching, raw edges, and beautiful brown color. The shirt fits snuggly through the middle arms/elbows, then flares slightly at the cuffs. The image is silk-screened with non-toxic water-based inks. Lotus Blossom Style's motto is "Transforming culture through clothing", and the company's symbol of the lotus flower represents coming into one's potential. They also make sweet baby clothes too that are super comfy with a positive message of love and joy!

Women Have the Power to Change the World: Donate Bridesmaid and Party Dresses

e3sro99y.jpg Summer is officially over, and if you were a bridesmaid, you may have a dress in you closet you will never wear again. One solution for that party dress is to donate it to a charity. Bridesmaid Party's Donate Your Dress program gives your dress to HopeCraft or Rubia, non-profit organizations:
dedicated to promote self empowerment and financial security for the poverty stricken, abused women and children in both Lea Toto, Africa and Darra-i-Nur, Afghanistan.
The donated dresses are upcycled by these organizations, and Bridesmaid Party will give you a $25 gift certificate in exchange for your donation. Upcycling and supporting impoverished women is the socially responsible and eco-friendly way to clean out your closet of gently used party dresses you'll never wear again.

Stay Dry with Recycled Monsoon Umbrellas

umbrellas_in_snow.jpg The rainy season is upon us and staying dry just got eco-friendly with Monsoon Vermont Recycled Trashion Umbrellas. The recycled umbrella is uniquely hand-made. The handle and tip are made from Indonesian native wood, and the edges are lined with silk. The rest of the umbrella is made from recycled trash that is collected by scavengers, triple washed, then "artfully collaged" together.

Eco Fashion: Natural Fiber Clothing by Hessnatur

Snapshot 2008-09-13 08-02-13.jpg Hessnatur is a German natural clothing company that has just launched in the US!
What we believe

Since its founding, hessnatur has been governed by a simple principle: human beings should live in harmony with each other and with nature. Respect for the planet and for its people is fundamental to the way we do business, interact with our partners and each other. We will not compromise our environmental integrity or our design aesthetics.

We can literally trace every step of the process in creating our clothes. Growing, spinning, weaving or knitting, dyeing and printing, finishing, cutting, sewing and packaging, we know everything that happens. What this means to you is that when we say our clothing is pure and natural from start to finish, you can believe our words.

I really love Hessnatur's cashmere sweater for women. This sweater is stylish with a scooped collar and rolled edges, and it is luxuriously soft. The cashmere from Mongolia makes the sweater warm without bulk, and I share Hessnatur's passion for natural fibers.

The Zah Collection: Go Organic with Go Natural Baby

22e4535ebab5b0ceb956ad245563e311.image.333x500.jpg Certified organic, fair trade, low impact dyes: what could be better? Go Natural Baby offers such eco-goodness in its Zah Collection of children's clothing. I got the Paloma dress for my niece. The simple design and silk-like organic jersey cotton fabric is perfect for warm temperatures, as well as can be layered with a long sleeve onesie or t-shirt for cooler Fall temperatures. Since my children are growing up too quickly, I am glad to see that Zah Collection will soon offer select styles in sizes up to eight.

Go Natural Baby espouses corporate social responsibility:
Go Natural Baby™ will only put our name on products that are made with Fair Trade values, including providing a healthy work environment for its workers, paying a fair wage, and ensuring that children are not in the work environment. Each year a portion of our profits will be given to the people that work in the factory, fields, and/or the school in our factory's village.
Eco-friendly and corporate social responsibility must go hand-in-hand for green companies. I am proud to support Go Natural Baby.

Recycled Rubber Chacos Sandals on Sale!

71NlwELH6yL._AA280_.jpg We are nearing the end of summer, which is the perfect time to buy a new pair of sandals because of sales. Last year, I made the switch from Tevas to Chacos. At first, it took some getting used to having my big toe wrapped by the strap, but then I discovered the straps were fully adjustable by sliding them through the sole of the shoe. Speaking of Chaco soles, these sport sandals are made from 25% recycled rubber and last forever! They can be repaired, rather than pitched in a landfill, so they are worth the investment, or you can donate them back to Chaco to be redistributed around the world to needy feet. Furthermore, Chaco pays their employees to to ride their bikes to work, volunteer their time, and advance their education. The company purchases wind-powered green certificates to match 100% of their energy needs.

Wear Your Environmental Message: Organic Ban T-Shirts

sos-290org.JPG
Organic casual fashion with a message, now that's what I'm talking about! Ban T-Shirts' motto is "deconstructing society shirt by shirt". The organic line embody this motto with an eco-friendly twist:

Because we are against the exploitation of workers all our stock is printed on sweat shop free t-shirts - however we also want to respect the environment and therefore print many designs on t-shirts made of independently certified organically produced cotton. We are now printing most of our new designs (and some of our earlier ones) on American Apparel and Royal Apparel organic cotton t-shirts. We also offer three designs on organic tees made by another U.S. based company, "Organic Apparel". These t-shirts are hand-dyed in a cold wash dye bath, so that impact on the environment is reduced to a minimum.

My favorite Ban T-Shirt is the SOS Earth T-Shirt:
Mothership Earth is sinking - only a heroic effort by the human race will save it. The Morse code distress signal, SOS, has become associated with phrases such as "Save Our Souls" and "Save Our Ship". On this shirt planet Earth assumes the position of the "O", delivering an urgent and striking message to those around you.

Printed on an Organic Apparel shirt, this tee is soft, comfortable, and of course, organic. Organic Apparel, a Colorado-based company, grows and spins their own organic cotton, as well as manufactures their shirts in the US. If you live in the US, buying US made goods definitely lessens the carbon footprint associated with shipping goods from overseas.
