Baby Earth Helps Parents Go Green With Baby

sassy cuddle doll.jpg Baby Earth is more than just an eco-friendly online shopping site for young children. It is a resource for parents wishing to go green with baby! From blogs to ideas, such as throwing a green grandmother shower, this site has an impressive amount of information and products.

One of my favorite products is the Sassy Cuddle Doll.

Inspire baby's senses with the soft, aromatic cuddle doll. Doll is lightly scented with calming lavender to stimulate baby's sense of smell. Wooden rings softly clack together, while bright colors and textured fabrics including velour, corduroy, fleece and sateen offer visual and tactile stimulation.

When playtime is over, put the cuddle doll in baby's hands and encourage them to smell the soft lavender scent. Lavender is commonly used as an aid to sleep and relaxation.

Sassy Earth Brights are handcrafted from quality hardwoods, select fabrics and water-based finishes with packaging made from 100% recycled paperboard.

My niece has this doll and loves it! It is safe for the youngest child, even newborns. The only negative aspects of this product is it is made in China and contains polyester.

Baby Earth also hosts a baby gear recycling program called Baby RENEW. Just send your old car seat, stroller or high chair to Baby Earth, and they will disassemble it and send it to recycling centers. If the gear is still in good shape, it will be donated to a needy family.

Made in the USA: Lotus Blossom Style Bamboo Women's Tees

CharuLotusDOUBLE.jpg Made in Los Angeles, California, Lotus Blossom Style's organic cotton and bamboo women's tees are beautiful! I love the Live Your Truth long sleeved tee, with its inside out stitching, raw edges, and beautiful brown color. The shirt fits snuggly through the middle arms/elbows, then flares slightly at the cuffs. The image is silk-screened with non-toxic water-based inks. Lotus Blossom Style's motto is "Transforming culture through clothing", and the company's symbol of the lotus flower represents coming into one's potential. They also make sweet baby clothes too that are super comfy with a positive message of love and joy!

Eco Touch: Conscious, Eco-Friendly Car Care

411nnbVxMWL._SS400_.jpg The green market is full of eco-friendly cleaning products for the home; however, Eco Touch is the first specific green product I have come across for the car. It's ironic that I will only clean my home with eco-friendly products, but when it comes to my car's interior, I've been known to use Armor All. Non-toxic, biodegradable, and phosphate-free, Eco Touch products keep your car clean without a nauseating brew of toxic fumes.
  • Eco Touch Dashboard + Trim: Keep your car's interior shining without a greasy residue! Just spray on and wipe off with a reusable, washable microfiber towel. This product even cleans the major layer of dust off my dashboard from living on a dirt road.
  • Eco Touch Waterless Car Wash Starter Kit: Who needs water to wash their car? A typical home car wash uses between 80-140 gallons of water! Just spray this product on your car and wipe off with a microfiber towel. One bottle saves 800 gallons of water and cleans six cars!
  • Eco Touch Carpet + Upholstery: The description of this product cracks me up: "removes wine, coffee, and more". Why are there wine stains in your car? Well, it does work...the wine coffee stains are gone from my driver's seat.

ECOBAGS are Perfect for the Farmer's Market

51cZw4M5gML._SL500_AA280_.jpg
Did you know that just one reusable bag eliminates the use of 1,000 plastic bags per year? ECOBAGS makes several natural and certified organic, recycled cotton and cotton/hemp blend reuseable bags. All ECOBAGS are made with fair wage/fair labor practices. My favorite bags are the Classic String Market Bags and the Lunch Bags, which I like to use as a produce bag. I am an avid farmers' market shopper, and it defeats the purpose of local shopping to accept a plastic bag made thousands of miles away from the farmer, besides the environmental impact. ECOBAGS has been in business for 19 years and is a member of Co-Op America, the Organic Trade Association, and the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.

Do Not Buy This Product: Clorox Greenworks Dishwashing Liquid

detail_prod_ndl.jpg I do not care if Greenworks products are endorsed by the Sierra Club, I have suspected Clorox's "natural" line from their introduction. I finally have tried one of their products, the natural dishwashing liquid, and my family hates it! It smells exactly like unnatural products and has a green color that I find suspect. Dishes require serious rinsing to remove the soap residue and smell, and my daughter complained her water bottle tasted like dish soap after I used it. Greenworks natural dishwashing liquid claims to be made of:
biodegradable ingredients like plants and minerals that remove grease and baked-on food, leaving your dishes clean and shiny. Now you can have it all: extraordinary cleaning power without harsh chemical residue (when used as directed).
Perhaps the directions should say rinse your dishes 20 times to remove residue, which would defeat the whole eco-friendly aspect by wasting water. Perhaps the Greenworks Free and Clear version is better than the natural dishwashing liquid, but I will stick to my Ecover from now on!

Fit & Fresh Live PURE Reusable Filtered Water Bottle Makes Tap Water Safe to Drink

21EdhQFpffL._SL500_AA280_.jpg It is common knowledge that plastic water bottles are bad for the environment, but many people are still not convinced tap water is safe. Fit & Fresh Liv Pure Filtered Water Bottle may offer the solution. Made from BPA-free plastic, this bottle houses a filter capable of reducing 50% of chlorine in 75 gallons of water, the life span of one filter. Unlike the LifeStraw, Fit & Fresh Liv Pure Filtered Water Bottle is not designed for microbiologically unsafe water or water of unknown quality. My daughter is very excited to have a Fit & Fresh Liv Pure Filtered Water Bottle for school, so that when she runs out of our spring water, she can safely refill the bottle with school water.

Single Serve Coffee and Tea Wands by Wisdom Wands

4149ZFZ49CL._SS400_.jpg Did you know that over 400 billion cups of coffee and tea are consumed each year? Imagine the energy and waste involved in fulfilling our desires for these hot beverages. Wisdom Wands thinks they have the solution with their eco-friendly glass coffee and tea accessories.

The Health Tea Wand Portable Single Serve Loose Tea Brewing Tool is basically a handcrafted glass straw that filters out loose herbs while you drink. Simply place the herbs in your tea cup, add boiling water, let steep, then sip away through your wand. I like the simplicity of it, and my daughter thinks they are "very cool"; however, it takes some getting used to drinking hot tea through a straw.

The Java Wand Portable Single Serve Coffee Brewing Tool is just like the tea wand, only it has a finer filter for the coffee grounds that really works. One advantage to drinking your coffee through a glass straw is it prevents dental stains, besides allowing you to make just one cup and not leave a wasteful coffeemaker on all day. Coffeemakers waste 65% of energy per cup versus just boiling water, and the coffee wand is much easier and cleaner to use than pouring coffee through a filter or using a French Press. Living-off-the-grid, I've never been able to run a coffeemaker because of its high energy use.

I have to admit, at first I was a bit skeptical about Wisdom Wands and thought they were just another green gimmick. After trying them out, I like them and will use them regularly for their simplicity and easy clean up (they are dishwasher safe). The wands come in a safe travel container making them easy to take to work. I have even gotten used to sipping my organic coffee through a straw!

Biodegradable Verterra Dinnerware Made from Fallen Leaves

13.jpg Verterra is perhaps the most eco-friendly dinnerware product I have ever come across! These unique bowls and plates are biodegradable, chemical-free, non-toxic, sustainable, renewable, microwave oven and refrigerator safe, reusable, and compostable. Best of all, they are made from fallen leaves! No trees are cut down to make this dinnerware, and Verterra products naturally break down in two months.
From start to finish, the impact we make on the earth is our top priority. We start by collecting fallen leaves from plantations without cutting down any trees. Normally, these leaves would be burned on the side of the road. Instead, they are brought to our factory, sprayed with high pressure water, steamed and UV sterilized. We recapture over 80% of the water we use. No chemicals, lacquers, glues, bonding agents or anything toxic are ever used. The entire process uses only a fraction of the energy used in recycling.
Wow! Who would have thought that compressed fallen leaves could be used for dinnerware?

Eco-Friendly Bag Green Reusable Produce Bags

Bag Green reusable produce bags I have my reusable shopping bags, but my green grocery store experience always falls short at the produce counter. I try to reuse those plastic produce bags, but they get funky and I hate using them. I have bought produce without using bags, but I worry about germs from the grocery cart or the checkout counter coming in contact with food. I have finally found a solution: Bag Green Reusable Produce Bags.

Bag Green produce bags are made of 100% eco-friendly cotton. They are shipped in recycled newspaper packaging, and a portion of each sale is donated to a non-profit organization devoted to preserving the environment. I used my Bag Green produce bag at the farmer's market the other day, and it felt good to refuse a brown or plastic bag. The only thing that would make Bag Green better is if they bags were made from organically grown cotton.  Bag Green produce bags close the loop on eco-friendly grocery shopping!
