The Ever Growing Natural Foods Market

Store-Fruit-Counter

It's really no surprise that what's old is new again. Natural foods are now being renamed - organic food products and they're just taking off. This article from the Chicago Tribune really outlines what's happing at the grocery store.

Some old world foods are cutting edge again, as consumers clamor for organics and other natural products. Just ask Julie Smolyansky and Chad Pawlak, two dairy industry entrepreneurs who see opportunity in foods that harken back to simpler times.

With organic products on the rise, Smolyansky, president and chief executive of Morton Grove-based Lifeway Foods, is targeting company sales of $24 million this year. That's double the level of 2002, when she took the helm of the publicly traded company upon the death of her father.

The 100-employee company has been introducing a growing number of products made with organic milk and other organic ingredients, including its latest, Probugs, a kefir drink for kids launched at retail this month.
