Organic Sales in UK Supermarkets Lead to Profits

180Px-Apples It's no surprise that food organic food sales are also growing in Europe as they are here in the US. What's really surprising is how much traditional grocery stores in Britain are turning around sales by offering organic.

Sales of organic foods are booming in supermarkets in England. In 2003 sales of organic food and drink rose twice as fast as the rest of the grocery market. Now in 2005 Sainsbury’s,the third largest supermarket, has increased sales in the last three months by 5% and attributes a significant part of this profit to higher sales of organic foods.

I am amazed at how many stores are beginning to carry organic! I was at Costco today and was able to buy the following organic products:

apple juice
cereal
milk
yogurt

I was super impressed. I guess retailers (as well as manufacturers) are starting to get the idea that this is what consumers want!
