No-ice fruit smoothie

For a thick, creamy smoothie that's not watered down with ice, try this trick:

--Slice and freeze a banana

--Puree yogurt (I use plain flavored and add a little sugar to the blender), the frozen banana slices, and fresh or frozen fruit(s) of your choice

Just make sure to break the frozen banana up into its individual pieces so you don't kill your blender. I speak from experience, my friends.

Cents 3 and 4:
* honey instead of sugar (I'm obsessed about removing refined sugar when possible)
* frozen watermelon, strawberries, etc instead of banana... the mixture is icy, but not as hearty

One way to "sneak" in nutrients to the smoothie (my kid calls them "Orange Julias") is to sprinkle some wheat germ into the mix. The only trouble is that it makes drinking them through a straw a bit difficult.
